Chapter 7

I woke up from my sleep. I felt really tired and I was in pain. Everything was blurry but I could feel something around my belly. I heard movement by the area of the window. My eye sight cleared and I saw Sasha sitting next to the window. Some light flickered in. The last remaining room was very dim and was sort of yellow.

I checked what was around my body. There were some white bandages around my torso. There was a thick red spot on my side. "When you fell you were stabbed it looks like" I turned my head back to Sasha. I wagged my tail to show that I understood what it was for. My middle area was in pain so it hurt to breath. "They've been outside watching the building all day long. It's so weird. Those men have been watching it as if they are waiting for something. They all have theses scary tools. Some of them look harmful"

I tried to get. Sasha jumped up and grabbed the fur around my neck. "No you must lay down Lisk. Your greatly injured. I barely stopped the bleeding. You don't want to tear it open do you" I pushed against her. "That's right I remember now. From on of are talks I remember you saying something. What was it. I think you said that wolves are never scared to die. Well I'm scared to lose you" I started to shake. I laid back down.

"OK good. I'll keep a look out. In the meantime eat this" Sasha laid a piece of meat in front of me. "It has some medicine that should help with the pain at least" Sasha walked back over to the window to watch the men. I ate the piece of meat. I tasted the medicine. I wouldn't have had a choice. If Sasha would have tricked me I wouldn't have been able to stop the medicine, because I wouldn't have tasted it till after I swallowed it. I continued to eat the meat. It tasted really good and it was nice and fresh and juicy.

I finished the meat and looked at Sasha. I had never seen a more serious face. She was determined to keep me safe so we could both live free. She knew that if I was killed it might be the end of the in tire wolf race. I soon felt better but I remained laying down. I was glad for the rest after the fight for life. I healed slowly over the day and when night fell me and Sasha fell asleep even though the men hadn't left.

The next morning I woke up. Sasha was yet again by the window watching. She noticed me wake up and she got down from her post. She walked over to me and took off her backpack. She pulled out a number of items. She pulled out a bottle, a needle, some bandages, and the muzzle from a few days ago, then she took out anther bottle. She looked at me. "OK first I'm going to have to put you mostly asleep. Then I'm going to muzzle you again for you have strong teeth and I don't know if the pain killer that I'm also going to inject you with will be enough. Then I'm going to change your bandages and take the muzzle off OK?" I gave a slight nod of approval. She grabbed one of the bottles and stuck the needle in the lid. She pulled back the plunger and took it out. Then she stuck it in me, put it in, and pulled it out all in the same motion.

I growled at her but remained calm. I slowly started to feel sleepy. Then everything blurred. I felt something on my muzzle and knew it was the muzzle. I then felt a poke in my behind. It was the pain killer. Then I felt her start to unravel the bandages. Every time it passed my wound I winced and let out a muted yelp. Then I felt the last piece come off. Then I felt Sasha put the new stuff on. The new stuff felt wonderful against my wound. It soon felt better. Then Sasha stopped tugging on the bandages and I knew she was done. Then she removed the muzzle.

I let my tongue hang out. I was tired and I wanted to just sleep. Then I felt Sasha's hand on my head. I slowly fell asleep.



I woke with a start. I was on my feet in an instant. There was a bang. Then there was another bang. I swung around wildly. I ran for the door. I changed into my human form and turned the doorknob. I ran out the door as fast as I could in my human form. I hadn't seen Sasha in the remainder of the building so she must have left real quick. I ran faster as I heard voices.

"Hurry, get the wolf. Get him. I turned a corner. Then I turned another. The world seemed to be just a big blur. Then I saw a figure in front of me. It was posed with something. I swung the pole at me. It was a human with a net. I jumped over him and I landed on the other side. I started to run again. I ran faster and faster as the voices started to catch up with me. I passed an alley and as I passed it I felt something grip me. It was a net. A man had swung a net as I ran passed. I was now in the net on the ground. I turned into my wolf form without even realising it. Then men caught up and one of them used a stick to hold my head to the ground. I was face first in the dirt. The stick is called a Y-pole. An instrument used to catch live wolves.

I felt another on my limbs. I heard something in the distance getting closer and louder. I felt a poke in my side. Then I heard the voice clearer. "No stop! Can't you see he's not fighting back" I saw Sasha's face. A man whipped around and grabbed her. I jerked. My head cleared up really sharp for a second. I fought the drug the humans had injected into me. I fought against the hold of the net.

"Hey we need someone else over here. This guys pretty tough" I felt the pull of the net strengthen. I pushed harder. I could just barely see Sasha. I fought harder. I had to protect her after all she had done for me. All of a sudden the net snapped. I jumped out of the humans grip and bounded toward the human that had Sasha by the arm. I lunged for his neck and sank my teeth in. His hand let go to protect his neck but it was to late. I brought him to the ground. I let go and looked at the other humans and then Sasha. She had a look of horror on her face. I quickly changed to my human form.

"I'm sorry" I said, "He was hurting you. I told you about wolves. Were very protective. I was only protecting you after all the stuff that you did for me"

"Lisk" said Sasha, "Run!" I had a bad feeling. I was hit all of a sudden with a high pitched noise. It knocked me over as I cringed in agony as the sound burst through my head. I flashed for a couple of seconds. I went from human to wolf to human to finally wolf. I fell over. I couldn't concentrate on anything. I felt Sasha shake me but I couldn't move. I was stunned by the noise. I saw her look up and run. Then I felt a strong hand on my muzzle. I immediately started to thrash.

"Hurry. Get me the something to tie his muzzle shut with" Someone rushed over with something. They strapped it around my muzzle and pulled it really tight. The human let go of me. I thrashed and tried to open my muzzle. I tried to pull it off. I heard laughter from the humans. All I could think was, "Cruel beings" Then I heard, "OK end it" Then I felt a kick in my side. Right on the wound and I passed out from the pain.
